At this time of year we are all planning our holidays and getting into shape for the beach.  However, now is also the right time to give your finances a workout.

It is easy to take our eye of our finances and let our care free holiday mood carry over into every aspect of our life.  Look at your money situation and see what can be done to improve it so you can enjoy even more cocktails on the beach.

The first thing to do is a have a good look at all the direct debit and standing orders paid from your bank account.  It is amazing how many times we carry on paying of things we no longer need, for example mobile insurance for last years phone.

Are you getting the best deal you can? Many of use renew our insurances, mortgages, gas, electricity and phone contracts without shopping around.  Never accept your renewal without comparing different providers to make sure you are getting the best possible deal.  Remember to haggle – don’t be embarrassed.  You will be amazed what you can save!

Get hold of a copy of your credit report -   this shows all your credit agreements and well you have been paying them.  There are companies where you can few online for free for a trial period but remember to cancel the subscription.  You can also get your credit report from Experian, Equifax and Call Credit they cost £2. Ensure all the information held about you in correct and up to date.  If you have any information which is incorrect you should contact the credit reference agencies, as this could make a big difference to any loan, credit card or mortgage interest rate you are offered.

Now for the bit we all find scary: add up what is coming in and going out.  If you find you are relying on credit cards or overdraft to pay your bills now is the time to get help.  Many people who are in debt put off getting advice due to embarrassment.  Here at Independent Debt Solutions we offer a personal service were you can be ensured to free, friendly and honest advice at all times.
You may worry about neighbours or work colleagues finding out.  If so, don’t. This no longer happens (unless you are so pleased about our service you decide to tell everyone).  We even come to you so you don’t have to enter an office with debt advice above the door.

The sooner you get help the easier it will be for your health, family life and stress levels.
